The shores of Lake Erie benefit from the temperature moderating effects of the water, therefore making a create mini-climate suitable for growing produce. Just nine miles from our home we are able to enjoy loads of fresh fruits and veggies, many of which are nearing the end of the season. The apple season, however, is in full swing. So, today we spent a beautiful autumnal afternoon with our friends Leah and Kevin with one goal in mind... to gather enough apples for me to make all of the tasty treats I had in my head. You can see from the bag B is holding that we were quite successful. The best part, however, was spending a perfect day with friends. I was pretty successful in the kitchen when we returned, churning out four batches of apple pie filling (for the freezer) and a tasty apple crisp. The apple butter, apple sauce, and apple cake are on the docket for next weekend.
