Equinox

A perfect description of the past few weeks... the Autumnal Equinox brought decidedly cooler temperatures, brilliant colors, and the start of the basketball season. The hoops discussion will follow, but you may be interested in the other things in our lives right now.

Two weeks ago we spent a lovely Saturday playing bridge with our friends Tommy and Gerry, and then visited our old neighbors Jake and Khanya. It was a great day to think more about our life together (Tommy and Gerry have been married for more than sixty years) and what is yet to come (Jake and Khanya are expecting a baby in January). It was also nice to spend a day out of the bubble and in our old stomping grounds.

I have been busy with work. A new City Manager started at the end of October, we hosted a Main Street event the first week of November, the Chamber of Commerce was without a Director for about a month, and we have two events this coming week. I have also been working busily with the MSO Board of Trustees to improve our marketing strategies.

Okay, now to basketball. The 2007-08 season for the Yeomen looks promising. They have a lot of young talent and some great leaders. Of course, young talent means that there will be many opportunities for player development. This past weekend the season officially began as we travelled to Philadelphia for the Equinox Tournament. We endured a gruelling 7.5 hour bus ride (without a functioning DVD player) on Thursday, but were treated with court time at the Palestra.

The 2007-08 Yeomen Basketball Team
On Friday, we enjoyed time in downtown Philadelphia, explored the Swarthmore campus and surrounding neighborhood, and tipped-off the season against Swarthmore.

The team - hoping the victory bell will ring that night.

Unfortunately, Friday night's game and Saturday's game against Haverford did not end as we had hoped, but they gained a lot from the experience. We are looking forward to another chance at the home opener on Wednesday (with Brett's parents in the stands!).
